BetterBuildings 5 Steps to Success

Follow these steps to have a successful BetterBuildings project
and receive eligible incentives for your energy efficiency improvements.

Step 2: Choose a Home Energy Analyst

Go to our Energy Analyst List to find a participating BetterBuildings home energy analyst to give your home the necessary check-up. NH BetterBuildings home energy experts are certified by the Building Performance Institute to perform an energy analysis and diagnose building problems such as moisture, mold, and ice dams.

Step 3: Review Your Work Scope and Learn About Incentives

Your chosen home energy analyst will provide a work scope for recommended improvements to make your building comfortable and efficient. They will partner with you to help you prioritize within your budget.

Your local BetterBuildings staff will share an estimate of the federal, state, and local incentives that may be available for your project, and help you find a local bank to finance the rest with a rate as low as 1%.

NH BetterBuildings staff is available to help you fill out any paperwork associated with the rebates and incentives as well as calculate the rate of return of your loan (if applicable) based on projected energy savings from your work.

Step 4: Complete the Work

Select from the list of BetterBuildings qualified Energy Improvement Contractors to move forward and make the improvements you choose for your home. These energy professionals will complete the recommended improvements and conduct a final “test-out” of your building to measure the air leakage reduction and ensure that ventilation and health and safety issues have been addressed.

Step 5: Enjoy the Benefits of Your Energy Efficiency Improvements

Energy efficiency improvements can save you money, keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, and reduce your dependence on foreign fossil fuels (keeping more money in the local economy).

Please consider sharing your story and teaching others what you learned by hosting an open house (BetterBuildings staff will help you coordinate), and/or by posting your story and sharing pictures at on our NashuaBerlin, or Plymouth facebook pages.
